OFFICE WORK

as the year progresses, this is where I will be uploading all the work I do at the office, site photos, measured drawings, aswell as final council drawings <watch this space>

Erf 2474 - HOUSE dE NOBREGA, MELKBOSCHSTRAND

Upon starting at 'Linden Projects,' my first project was to complete the drawings of House de Nobrega from where the previous year's student had left off.
It started off as a challenge, as I'd never worked on Caddie before, but with the help of last year's student, Alexia, the boss, Enrica, and the draughstman, Xavier, i started picking up the basic functions of Caddie and was able to come up with a decent result

This is a double story, face-brick thatch house that is situated next to the beach in Melkbos. The clients had just bought the house and wanted to turn it into a 'beach house' style home, moving away from the brown brick walls and the thatch roof. A major interior and exterior re-configuration was to be done, as the clients has wanted to increase the sizes of the children's bedrooms, giving the both an -ensuite, and access to the pool area, an open plan living, kitchen, and dining room was to be designed, all the dry-walling of the first floor was to be demolished and re-done allowing the layout of th architect to be constructed, because of the large cars owned by the clients, the garages were also to be extended, onto which the main bedroom was to be built having a non-interupted view of the ocean...
Many new windows and doors are to be inserted and a braai area was to be designed and built close to the pool area. a scullary was to be built next to the kitchen, a basement for the storage of canoes, and other water sport equipment was to be built below the exisitng front patio and large store rooms were to be built behind the garages.

One of my first taks of the project, was to play around with the back store room, coming up with a variation of layouts. it was quite tricky, as there were to be alot of different levels in the store. i had eventually come up with a working solution, which is now shown in the plans. I was then asked to help design a small braai area for the pool, something resembling the morrocon seats. so i came up with a semi-circular design, consisting of a small counter, braai place, and seating, it turned out realy nice at the end, and i am pretty happy with it. other tasks included the opening up of doors and windows, together with this, completing the door and window schedules, drawing the elevation of the boundary wall on the plans, and finishing off the drawings by adding all the final notes and hatching.

It was a good learning project for me and i could only get better :)

This project involved the erecting of a wooden framed carport above the existing driveway area.

It was my job to re-draft the entire existing dwelling, as we never had any soft-copy plans of the dwelling.
I had a hard-copy set of the plans which i could make reference of when needing dimensions of the existing dwelling. if some measurements were unclear or omited, i had asked Enrica to double-check these dimensions as she lived near the property. Enrica had then gone back and got all the dimensions around the relevent area of proposed carport.

I was asked to help in the design of the carport to specs given to me by the owner and architect, and had managed to draw up plans for approval by council

Drawings i had drafted included: A floor and roof plan, 2 elevations, and a section through the proposed carport.

Another project from which i had to continue with the drawings of the previous student.

This project involved the renovation of an empty office building, to make suitable for an Internet Service provider. The building had two floors, both floors being completely open planned. The brief was to define new spaces in the building. This included adding a lobby, kitchen, bathroom, and vault to the ground floor, aswell as 4 offices and 2 bathrooms to the 1st floor. I was involved in a lot of small parts of the project, these included: Drawing of the aircon layout, determining and drawing of the drainage on plan, fixing up of all drawings according to photograhs, the completing of the section, the adding of the door and window schedule, the completing of notes, dimensions and hatching after i had to make a number of changes along the way, such as the changing of 1st floor brick walls to dry-walling after engineer had said the new brickwork would be too heavy of a load for the floor slab and i was to then prepare the drawings for council submission

This project involved the enclosing of a patio with a boarded roof.
I was to redraft the existing using the hard-copy plans we had in the office, and prepare a new set of drawings for coucil that consisted of the new boarded roof. I had to prepare the floor plan, roof plan as well as the relevent sections and elevations, determining the area calculations, and compiling all the notes and dimensions.
